TitelModel van Hawks Smale anker
BeschrijvingHouten model (bruin gelakt) van een anker type "Admirality" doch met een stok door het kruis, van + 1851.
Door George Cotsell worden twee dergelijke ankers genoemd (pag.43): "That of Hawks, a plan, which consiste of inserting the "stock" through the crown of teh ancho maar "with stays or spurs, coming from the end of the stock, keyed to the shank"---verder: "not an original idea as the Chinese put the stock through the crown of their anchors ages ago. "en pag.44: " One model of Mr. William Smale's invention.. a portable anchor, composed of several pieces. The stock passes through the crown. It is generally of the Admirality dimensions. The reason of transferring the stock to the crown, i cannot divine. It being more liable to injury in such a position, involves the liability of the loss of the crown, I can't divine. It being more liable to injury in such a position, involves the liability of the loss of the crown and arms of the anchor.
I presume that in a portable anchor, more especially than in an ordinary one, the position of the stock and it's greater liability to injury much prove fatal to the invention or design. A model of this was in the great Exhibition of 1851"
opmerking: zie Jaarverslag 1932, blz. 5, sub k.
opmerking: negatief aanwezig (?)
