A world-renowned collection
The Maritime Museum Rotterdam has a collection that is among the world’s best. It is one of the largest and most pre-eminent maritime collections in the world and it illustrates six centuries of Dutch maritime history. It’s a collection we’re proud of and something that we are cherishing and preserving for future generations!
The collection of the Maritime Museum comprises over 850,000 objects. The museum wants to make this precious property accessible to as many people as possible – for research, for acquiring new understandings or simply for enjoyment. Search through our collection online
A large proportion of the Maritime Museum Rotterdam’s collection can be viewed digitally on this website. You can browse or search specifically and find at least basic information about each object, such as its title and object number. We are working on making more and more of our collection available online.
If you already know what you’re looking for, use the search function. This can be used for simple searches or complex search queries. If you simply want to have a look around, the homepage is a good place to start. There are always various themes listed on the homepage and you can click through from there.
Use of images
We do not have images of all the objects online yet. We’re working on that! If a picture is available, you can download it free of charge. Those images may be used freely for your own private purposes. If you would like to use an image for a publication, or if you are looking for an image at a higher resolution, please send an e-mail to collecties@maritiemmuseum.nl
Maritime books
If you are looking for a maritime book, you can try our library. It has the Netherlands’ oldest and most comprehensive collection on maritime topics. As well as international literature about shipping, shipbuilding, ports and the offshore industry, we also manage several extensive collections of books and magazines.
